You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) TRAINING LEADER in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will instruct/lead apprentices, trainees, journeymen, workers, military personnel and others in the proper use of tools, machinery, and repair procedures associated with the aircraft sheet metal. You will conduct training sessions designed to update, improve, and upgrade the knowledge and skills of others by selecting, modifying, and using various instructional methods and techniques. You will evaluate the progress of workers in terms of such factors as interest, cooperation, assimilation of basic fundamentals and theory, and practical application of work methods.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Incumbent may occasionally be required to use toxic chemicals and/or work in presence of toxic fumes, requiring use of appropriate breathing apparatus.
  • This position requires near vision correctable at 14' to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must be able to distinguish colors and have depth perception. Eye protection is required in hazardous areas.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE A) Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Performing productive tasks of a journey level Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) Troubleshooting systems, disassembling components/systems, and determining required repairs; 6) Performing complete structural check of aircraft; 7) Maintaining training records and making recommendations for employee's training plan progress or additional training as appropriate; 8) Developing and revising lesson plans, developing and administering tests and maintaining progress charts; and 9) Conducting formal/informal or on-the-job training instructing others in the use of tools, nomenclature, theory of operations, repair procedures and test procedures of components, assemblies and air-frames associated with the Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic trade. B) Have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: 1) Performing productive tasks of a Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; 4) reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) troubleshooting systems, disassembling components/systems, and determining required repairs; 6) Performing complete structural check of aircraft.; and 7) Conducting formal/informal or on-the-job training instructing others in the use of tools, nomenclature, theory of operations, repair procedures and test procedures of components, assemblies and air-frames associated with the Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic trade. C) Have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Performing tasks of a Sheet Metal Mechanic, including repairing various types of fixed, rotary wing and trainer aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Developing training courses, curriculum and instructing courses as required; 3) Demonstrating proper trade techniques and practices, explaining safety precautions and giving instructions on the use of power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments and safety devices; and 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, job orders, specifications and maintenance instructions; 5) Performing structural check of aircraft.
