You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, Assistant Nuclear Engineering and Planning Manager, Project Support Branch (Code 2301.2) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will coordinate across organizational lines within the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, with other shipyard departments, and various contractor representatives.
You will resolve conflicts convcerning the work package development and overlapping functions.
You will provide advice and recommendations for design changes.
You will ensure strict adherence to schedules.
You will provide management guidance and coordinate work projects between the individual divisions of the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department and other shipyard departments.
You will provide project coordination of engineering and planning functions to include a complete thorough engineering review of all approved work entering the department on an individually assigned project.
You will participate in developing the Project Management Plan (PMP) and all major nuclear planning products (TGI's, Job summaries, materials, etc.)
You will specify pretest and plant certification requirements for the shipyard and make sure the systems/reactor plants are ready for operation.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience demonstrating knowledge of the functions and objectives of nuclear power program in the Department of the Navy.
Experience understanding nuclear engineering methods, techniques and engineering principles such as structural, mechanical, industrial, metallurgy, hydraulics, chemical, electrical, quality and radiological controls.
Experience overseeing the planning, coordinating, and executing of nuclear work of various trades in support of ship system overhaul, repair, or modification projects to ensure the overall effectiveness in terms of schedule, cost, and quality.
Experience effective communication both verbal and written, as well as interfacing with upper management (Division Head level).
Experience identifying and analyzing potential risks/problems, recommending corrective actions, and developing the best approach to the contingent response to the planning of projects.
