Duties

WHO IS INCOME TAX AND ACCOUNTING? The Associate Chief Counsel, Income Tax and Accounting (ITA) employs approximately 100 tax professionals who work in our national office in Washington, D.C. These professionals provide legal advice and litigation support on tax matters involving recognition and timing of income and deductions of individuals and corporations, sales and exchanges, capital gains and losses, accounting methods and periods, installment sales, long term contracts, inventories and alternative minimum tax to the IRS, the Office of Chief Counsel, the Dept. of Treasury, and to other government agencies and the public. WHAT DOES A MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT (OA) DO? As a Management Assistant (OA), you will gain experience with computer systems and databases - entering, retrieving and organizing information and documents and assist with all the support activities perform in a legal office. The following are the duties of the Management Assistant (Office Automation) at the GS-07. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous two years*, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; For more information on education requirements go to Treasury's Pathways Program. *Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the two-year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining two-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond six years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study. In order to qualify for the Management Assistant (Office Automation) position at the GS-05 level, you must meet the following requirements: Education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for the GS-05 level, you must meet the following requirements by the closing of this announcement: A. Education: In the Recent Graduates Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR B. Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as creating and maintaining records, charts, databases, and/or reports; AND gathering information for reports and studies; AND preparing written documents utilizing various software applications; AND supporting office functions by either screening calls and visitors, answering inquiries, or coordinating and scheduling meetings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR C. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume. Typing Requirement: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Education

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency.
