About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Pathology at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Identify appropriate medical report format. Analyzes dictation for accuracy and meaning to determine that dictated test results are consistent with associated patient symptoms or diagnosis. Contact medical staff as necessary for inconsistency. Operate computer, and Dictaphone dictation/transcription software to transcribe from voice recordings into final form. Ensure correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling, grammar and proper arrangement of all typed material. A qualified typist is required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using a variety of transcription tools to transcribe medical records; apply medical knowledge to analyze patient records for accuracy; edit and make grammatical corrections to medical reports for clarity and accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Education
