About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Preventive Medicine Epidemiology and Disease Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Conducts interviews and epidemiological investigations for suspected and diagnosed communicable diseases to include cases involving an outbreak of sexually transmitted infections. Investigates transmission route and traces contacts that may have been exposed to common source or to the patient for communicable infections/STIs. Makes telephonic, written, or personal contact with the named individuals, units, and all other sources necessary as part of the investigation. Conducts prevention training and informational presentations for reportable events such as STD/HIV, weather related injuries, and various communicable diseases. Carry out duties and responsibilities to assist with the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of communicable diseases and reportable conditions. Attends meetings and participates in the performance improvement process through communication with providers, administrative staff, management, and others to improve quality of care.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the conduction of epidemiological (communicable disease) investigations and preparing or presenting information on communicable diseases to medical clinic or hospital staff, and patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
