About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Puget Sound Market, Army Medical Center Madigan, Department of Primary Care, Optometry Clinic located at Tacoma, Washington.

Duties
Serves as a first line supervisor over technical staff serving in three primary care optometry clinics.
Supervises all optometry health technicians and medical support assistants.
Directs the work of the subordinate staff, independently resolves minor problems as they arise and recommends or takes informal corrective action.
Provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Assists with patient tracker mock survey activities
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- Position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- Position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Position requires a current Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA) certification or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification.
- Position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experiernce requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience overseeing clinic flow and technician clinical assignments overall processing and administration duties. Perform direct patient care by compiling patient's ophthalmologic concerns for optometrist's evaluation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Ocular Anatomy, or Optician. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
