You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Base Safety Office of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.
Duties
You will perform periodic and random inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
You will advise supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous practices, processes and environmental conditions.
You will plan, organize, coordinate, direct, evaluate and conduct mishap investigation in accordance with current mishap prevention orders and directives.
You will provide technical safety training to installation and unit safety representatives, inspectors and their employees using a wide variety of methods and media.
You will establish, guide and encourage supervisor-employee safety committees to identify and eliminate hazardous equipment operations and unsafe working conditions.
Requirements

- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Advising occupational safety and health technical requirements by applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures; 2) Analyzing and evaluating an organization's safety programs to provide recommendations for program improvement; 3) Performing inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations, to include identifying, documenting, and tracking program deficiencies to ensure resolution; 4) Conducting technical safety training to personnel, to include promoting safety via presentations (e.g., safety stands downs, conferences, meetings) and posting of safety information to increase awareness; and 5) Preparing status briefs and reports with statistical data and charts to convey safety and occupational health program performance to leadership.
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Assisting in analyzing an organization's safety programs to provide recommendations for program improvement; 2) Assisting in planning, scheduling, and performing inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations; and 3) Providing status updates to management on occupational safety and health programs.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
GS-11
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
GS-09
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
Successfully completed an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
