This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
This is being announced at multiple grade levels; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity. At the full performance, GS-09, the incumbent will:
Respond to fire alarms for all classes of fires, including those involving radioactive and/or hazardous materials, medical emergencies, rescue operations; wild land fires, hazardous material incidents, and aircraft emergencies.
Perform preventative checks on trucks and equipment on a daily basis.
Administer emergency care for injuries at accident sites.
Assess patient condition and determine the appropriate treatment.
Inspect buildings for hazardous conditions and compliance to fire code standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to pass a pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoDi 6055.05M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
- The position requires successfully completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
- Incumbent must participate in the Fire Division's Fitness and Wellness Program that includes a cardiovascular physical fitness program IAW NFPA 1583 and DODI 6055.06.
- This position requires incumbent to wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid state and government driver's license.
- Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 50 lbs or more. May be required to lift/carry personnel in emergency situations.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency Vehicle Operators certification.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a functioning telephone at residence to aid in contact during recall situations.
- Incumbent will be required to work a minimum of 72 hours per week (144 hours per pay period), including at least one 24-hour shift per week and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
- GS-0081 is a primary/rigorous position a pre-employment physical is required; you must successfully complete the pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
To qualify at the GS-08 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing rescue operations; detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; controlling hazardous materials incidents; executing established emergency medical techniques, methods, and/or equipment to stabilize patients for transport. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
To qualify at the GS-09 grade level: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling and extinguishing fires; assisting with rescue operations, operating emergency vehicles and /or equipment and assessing patient's conditions to administer basic treatment; administering life saving measures in response to a medical emergency. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
