Duties

Assists in the development and implementation of fire prevention protection programs, establishing the methods, techniques, and procedures for effectively administering the programs. Assists in analyzing the overall fire protection activities, submitting quarterly unfunded requirements and providing justification for overages, shortages, or unusual situations. Reviews and monitors the department advanced life support (ALS) program. Coordinates and evaluates simulated emergency responses that test the ability to respond to and resolve emergency situations. Oversees extensive training records and evaluates the progress of the training programs. Assigns work to subordinates. Supervises operations personnel and rates their performance of the fire prevention program. Supervises and directs subordinates' actions when participating in emergency responses, exercises, and routine day-to-day operations. Supervises training personnel and rates their performance of the fire training program. Direct and oversee training program development and execution. Supervises operations personnel and rates their performance in managing and executing emergency response operations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • An applicant not currently occupying a GS-0081 position is required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Incumbent must participate in the Fire Division's Fitness and Wellness Program that includes a cardiovascular physical fitness program IAW NFPA 1583 and DODI 6055.06
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position is designated Mission Essential, required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and/or other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
  • Must maintain a functioning telephone at residence to aid in contact during recall situations.
  • Work requires driving a motor vehicle. Must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
  • Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 40 lbs or more. Employee may be required to lift/carry personnel in emergency situations.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required.
  • Incumbent will be required to work a minimum of 72 hours per week (144 hours per pay period), including at least one 24-hour shift per week and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
