This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: These positions are located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina; Womack Army Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine.
Duties
Open and maintain the airway using the appropriate techniques..
Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation on adults, small children, and infants.
Identify the symptoms of potential life-threatening dangers and provides appropriate immobilization for injuries.
Operate an emergency or patient transport vehicle.
Prepare appropriate patient and vehicle use documentation.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
- This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
- May include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Military Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes providing emergency medical assistance to patients, taking and recording vital signs, and performing medical assessments to determine patient's emergency care requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
License Requirement: This position requires the incumbent to submit a copy of their Washington State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification for EMT or National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) at the time of application and maintain throughout the duration of employment.
