This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates in the competitive service. About the Position: The Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) position is located with the Directorate of Public works Fort Drum New York.

Duties

Utilize comprehension of accepted carpentry trade methods and techniques. Drive service vehicles with a GVW of 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, materials and equipment. Use simple arithmetic plus advanced shop mathematics to plan and compute complex and exact projects. Interpret work orders, building plans, blueprints,and sketches to plan the work. Versed in the set up and fine-tuning of a variety of carpentry and power tools to complete projects. Operate control of various engineering equipment appropriately and within safety standards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires occasional shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee previously met requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid Government Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • This position has been designated "Weather Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) tasks including repairing doors, windows; painting buildings; performing some electrical work such as installing light fixtures and outlets; utilizing testing devices to accomplish work - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility for this position, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Physical Effort: The operator is constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions with larger pieces of equipment that require frequent adjustments under adverse operating conditions. Operator may be required to handle large pieces of equipment which may require frequent adjustments under adverse operating conditions. Occasionally the operator will be required to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, and rolling surfaces. Operator is required to use hand tools such as grease gun, pliers, wrenches, screwdriver, oil can, etc. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning and subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Safety glasses, goggles, hard hats, safety shoes or boots, hip boots, and earplugs or earmuffs are used.

Education
