About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types.
Duties
Repairs facilities and structures from inspection or as indicated on work orders.
Reviews correspondence for compliance with agency correspondence directives)Reviews work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures.
Repairs or replaces window frames and sashes, measuring and cutting lumber to size.
Replaces defective wiring and makes extensions of existing electrical systems.
Provides guidance regarding procedures, policies, written instruction, and other directives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
- This is a Weather Essential Position. incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Mechanic Leader (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Ability to Lead or Supervise common Maintenance Mechanic (MVO) duties such as Repair work of buildings, structures, grounds, related fixtures and utilities. I can read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders. I can create plans and lay out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Works from 40 ladders, scaffolds, platforms, cramped and hard to reach places and other tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to perform heavy lifting up to 90 lbs. when carrying bricks, blocks, mortar, doors, railing, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold buildings adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. The employee is subject to cuts from hand or powered tools; flying splinters and chip, sawdust, dirt spray and paint fumes, mortar dust, falling; injuries due to lifting heavy pieces of lumber, masonry or equipment; and noise from hammers, saws and other power tools.
