Duties
The mission of the Applied Physics Division is to advance measurement science and technology in areas of critical importance to national priority needs, such as, advanced manufacturing, national security, quantum communications, strategic computing, and quantitative imaging!
As the new Physicist on our team you will:
Design and construct experimental apparatus' to conduct time-resolved emission microscopy of semiconductor integrated circuits. This apparatus will involve a microscope, spectrometer, cryostat, superconducting sensor array, and readout electronics.
Use of the apparatus to measure semiconductor integrated circuits-both those fabricated at NIST and those from advanced foundries, obtained through our industry partners.
Site visits to our industry partners to learn about their measurement needs, tailor our apparatus to their test environment, and to conduct measurements in conjunction with those partners.

Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements:
1. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 5 level (ZP-I at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in measurements of semiconductor integrated circuits; experience performing time-resolved emission microscopy; experience in spectroscopy; experience in microscopy and faint-light measurements; experience with lasers and vacuum chambers; AND experience with data analysis using Matlab or Python.
