Duties
The mission of the Applied Physics Division is to advance measurement science and technology in areas of critical importance to national priority needs, such as, advanced manufacturing, national security, quantum communications, strategic computing, and quantitative imaging. Photonics, magnetics, and imaging are transformative technologies where fundamental metrological basis is needed to address these national priority needs.
If selected, you will research and develop complex quantum optical metrology techniques needed for optical quantum networks.
Specifically, duties will include:
Coordinating a team to develop a large-scale, multimode quantum network, including of the requisite hardware, software, and metrology.
Preparing high quality peer-reviewed manuscripts and presenting research findings at national and international scientific conferences and meetings.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree in physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 (ZP-IV at NIST) or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience is described as experience in conducting measurements and analysis with loophole-free Bell experiments using entangled photon pairs. Applicants must also show experience with randomness expansion techniques.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
