This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard, Assistant Commandant for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Information Technology (CG-6), Office of Privacy Management (CG-6P), Washington, DC.

Duties

As a Government Information Specialist (FOIA/Cyber), this position serves as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Compliance Manager, and is responsible for developing and maintaining cybersecurity plans, strategies, and policies to support and align with organizational cybersecurity initiatives and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Time-in grade requirement must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience includes the following: Providing guidance and advice on Federal FOIA policy and processes; Making determinations about use and dissemination of personally identifiable information; Analyzing and evaluating data for response to information requests; Assembling and reviewing FOIA packages for release. To qualify for the GS-11, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience includes the following: Processing FOIA and Privacy Act data requests; Drafting written and oral responses on FOIA matters; Providing guidance and advice on Federal privacy policy and processes; Preparing reports related to FOIA. OR Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. OR Combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-09, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience includes the following: Applying FOIA laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines; Assisting in the review and analysis of FOIA requests; Monitoring and tracking FOIA requests and appeals in a case management system. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related  OR Combination of education and experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
