About the Position: This position is located within the Behavioral Health Department, Family Advocacy Program, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Cavazos, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties by entering, manipulating, and/or retrieving information and data from automated systems.

Duties

Provide administrative and medical support requiring the application of extensive guidelines and specialized knowledge for the Family Advocacy Program. Maintain all paper and electronic patient records according to regulation. Provide administrative support in the management, evaluation, and reporting of child and intimate partner abuse cases. Enter, manipulate, and retrieve patient information and data from automated systems. Utilize office automation software applications to compile various reports and documents, ensuring proper grammar and format. Review records prior to appointments to ensure complete and accurate information. Record and complete Incident Determination Committee meeting minutes for the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) and Garrison/installation Commander’s signature. Coordinate appointments, follow-up contacts, and notifications to commander, Soldiers, Family members, community agency representatives, and post personnel regarding evaluation and intervention. Receive telephone calls and visitors to the department, determining the source of the call or visit and take messages if necessary. Provide information and assistance to Service/Family members on program services available. Answer questions regarding substantive matters that may require in-depth familiarity of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) policy.

Requirements

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of administrative or clerical duties in a medical clinic such as operating office automation systems, creating correspondence, compiling data to create reports, entering patient data into an automated system, scheduling appointments and maintaining electronic files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
