Duties

Operates numerous types of heavy equipment, such as tracked tractor with scraper, 30 ton articulated hauler, hydraulic excavator, front-end loader Load materials such as sand, gravel, earth; Utilize forestry grade industrial brush cutter that will mulch tree brush and large tree trunks. Level earth that has been damaged by military tracked and wheeled vehicles during military training exercises. Perform preventive maintenance and servicing of all equipment assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This Position Requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a Class A Commerical Drivers License (CDL) within 6 months of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks, including operating large trucks such as dump trucks, water trucks, and chemical trucks. I am skilled in tasks that involve the operation of engineering equipment used to maintain roads and grounds, such as payloaders, tractors with attachments, and graders and rollers used to excavate, backfill, grade, level, tamp and/or pile.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment OperatorWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. The operator must be able to lift 75 pounds repeatedly. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operators are exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. Operator is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, hay particles and dust during mulching operations, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.
