VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Social Work: vacareers.va.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/Total-Rewards-of-a-Social-Worker-Career-Flyer.pdf Duties may include but are not limited to: Administrative: Serving as facility subject matter expert and point of contact for matters related to suicide, including prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts, education, outreach and suicide behavior and death reporting; collaboration with other SPCs within the medical center, Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN), and nationally to share best practices and accurately documenting services rendered clinically and programmatically to improve the Suicide Prevention Program overall. Tracking and reporting: Implements and monitors facility compliance with various programs and initiatives required by OMHSP for all VA Medical Centers, including (but not limited to): Suicide Prevention in the Emergency Department (SPED), the High Risk for Suicide Patient Record Flag (HRS-PRF) process, VA Suicide Risk Identification Strategy (RISK ID) (universal screening, evaluation and safety planning requirements), Financial Assistance for High Risk Veterans, Post Discharge Engagement, Postvention Program, Environment of Care, Caring Communications mailing program, Behavioral Health Autopsy program, and others as defined by OMHSP. Enhanced care delivery: The SPC position is recommended to be 90% administrative. OMHSP requires that SPCs manage, administrate, and support enhanced care delivery for all Veterans who receive a Patient Record Flag Category 1 - High Risk for Suicide Flag (PRF-HRS). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing all referrals for a PRF-HRS, making a determination regarding PRF-HRS eligibility, monitoring related metrics for enhanced care delivery requirements, and supporting providers in providing assessment, treatment, and safety planning for those Veterans determined to meet criteria for PRF-HRS placement. Access and referral: The Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) is an important touch-point for Veterans and former servicemembers to receive crisis intervention twenty-four hours per day, 365 days per year. Suicide Prevention Coordinators are responsible for following up on all referrals from the Veterans Crisis Line to the VA Medical Centers within 1 business day. The incumbent will provide enhanced care delivery through follow-up and debriefing on crisis intervention contacts, facilitating registration and enrollment for VHA-eligible Veterans, evaluating suicide risk for callers reporting suicide risk factors, referring ineligible former servicemember callers to outside agencies for commensurate care in the community, and addressing any other presenting clinical needs. Outreach and awareness: OMHSP requires each Suicide Prevention Team to complete a minimum of 5 outreach events or activities in the community per month; this includes at least one gatekeeper training, known as VA SAVE, to be given to community partners such as emergency departments, Veterans' organizations, churches, law enforcement departments, etc. This expectation is in addition to the new community outreach efforts to be completed by the Community Engagement & Partnerships Coordinators. Education and training: OMHSP mandates a number of trainings for both clinical and nonclinical staff members within the VA System. The incumbent will present these trainings as required, including monthly New Employee Orientation VA S.A.V.E., to teach staff how to identify Veterans who are showing the signs of increased risk for suicide and how to respond. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work MAY not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Transcripts Required. License: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Copy of Licensure Required. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker - Program Coordinator, GS-12 Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
