About the Position: Serves as a Secretary responsible for providing administrative support to the President, US Army Medical Department Board, and the Board's Deputy Director located in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Performs the full range of clerical and administrative support functions for the office, including word processing, answering the President's telephone calls, arranging for any travel, arranging meetings, and assembling reports. Receives office visitors and telephone callers, ascertaining nature of call. Screens all incoming mail for action, information, or routine; makes distribution, and extracts or notes points of immediate interest to supervisor. Maintains civilian employee time cards and coordinates employee selections for supervisor. Composes and types correspondence, using word processing packages, including letters, memos, reports, military efficiency reports, and travel orders.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to type 40 wpm.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving visitors and answering telephone calls; maintaining chief's daily calendar; making appointments and arranging conferences and meeting; preparation of travel orders/vouchers; preparing recurring and one time reports; proof outgoing material (correspondence, action and staff papers, studies and speech and briefing materials). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration or Business Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementAttention to DetailClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-05.
