About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security - Range Branch, Operations, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.

Duties

Serve as a Range Operations Specialist at the installation. Schedule and conduct range walks with members of training units as part of range coordination process. of weapons to be fired, ammunition, arrival and departure times of the unit. Periodically check on-going programs to ensure that range procedures are being followed in accordance with applicable memorandums, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures. Check new firing programs for proper setup and periodically checks on-going programs to ensure that range procedures are being followed.

Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is designated as an Inclement Weather Essential position.
  • This position requires a Pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the ability to lift approximately 60 lbs.
  • This position requires that the incumbent may be required to work nonstandard duty hours (e.g., shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime-both scheduled and unscheduled, and, is subject to recall 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency).
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • The incumbent may be required to work in adverse conditions to include snow, ice, rain, and dust.
  • The incumbent may be required to enter an established impact areas to install targets and accessories.
  • Required to attend and successfully graduate from the Army Range Safety Course within one year after appointment to the position.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer not limited to, safety shoes, glasses, ear protection, etc.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Planning and EvaluatingTechnical Credibility Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
