This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, in the Facility Management Division. Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.

Duties

Major Duties: Electrical- Performs all preventative maintenance, operational checks, repair, layout, installation, troubleshooting, tracing, locating defects, modification on and new and existing secondary electrical systems from transformers to final connections park wide. Installs, maintains and repairs electric motors, pumps, control wiring; relays and starters, particularly those units required for building boiler systems and HVAC. Plumbing- Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles. Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs low pressure oil-fired and gas-fired steam and hot water boilers, furnaces, space heaters, and related piping. Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic- The incumbent provides support in the areas of operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the large and complex systems utilized for air conditioning and heating various historic and non-historic buildings within the National Park Service. Responsible for the operation, installation, repair, and maintenance of several types of HVAC systems and controls, with a variety of components. Carpentry- Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities. Constructs storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring. Builds small structures and replaces deteriorated sections of existing structures. Constructs interior and exterior stairs. Installs exterior siding and roofing. Area Information: This position is stationed at Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim located in Northern Arizona. The South Rim is located approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 82 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 90 degrees in the summer to 0 degrees in the winter. Annual precipitation averages around 13 inches. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, churches, a recreation center with gym, a public library, a clinic with resident physicians, and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,500 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Flagstaff has a population of about 66,000 and has multiple K-12 public and private schools, Northern Arizona University, and diverse community, medical and other support services. Recreational opportunities include hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities. South Rim Housing: Permanent and Term employees with a Full Performance Level (FPL) of a GS-09 or WG-8 and above will be provided the option of accepting assigned housing, participating in the normal bid system, or accepting shared housing. Permanent and Term employees with an FPL of GS-08 or WG-7 and below may be provided the option of participating in the normal bid system or accepting shared housing. Any employee assigned to shared housing may continue to bid into non-shared housing.

To be found minimally qualified, your resume must show that you have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, I have performed the work with a high level of independence. I have performed at this level in two of the following trades: Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Utilities Systems Repair-Operator and Engineering Equipment Operator.
