As a Lead Industrial Hygienist you will plan, direct, coordinate, evaluate and administer industrial hygiene programs of consultative, technical, and evaluative services for the organization. This position is located in GSA, NCR, Public Buildings Service (PBS), Facilities Management and Special Programs Division. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.

Duties

Provide expert technical advice and consultation and develop, interpret and ensure proper application of industrial hygiene, environmental, and safety and occupational health standards. Create or review program policy and guidance, supporting nationwide program performance, providing regional program training, providing technical program consultation and making technical recommendations. Analyze and review data to evaluate major industrial hygiene programs and environmental activities. Provide evaluation reports to agency heads with recommendations for changes or modifications. Performs high level duties and responsibilities and leads activities to include but not limited to: ensures the maintenance of proper, acceptable Indoor air and environmental quality evaluates and monitors lead-based paint and lead dust hazards; ensures asbestos control and management; sets workplace limits on exposures to physical, chemical and biological agents; ensures the maintenance of safe drinking water; monitors and facilitates actions to detect and perform remediation of workplace safety and health hazards involving noise, radiation, fall hazards, electrical work, equipment guarding, elevated platforms, motorized vehicles, welding, ergonomic work conditions, pathogen or disease outbreaks, blood-borne pathogen control, emergencies and disasters.

Qualifications

For each job on your resume, provide: the exact dates you held  each job (from month/year to month/year) number of hours per week you worked (if part time).     If you have volunteered your service through a National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, Americorps), we encourage you to apply and include this experience on your resume.For a brief video on creating a Federal resume, click here. The GS-14 salary range starts at $139,395 per year.     BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENISTS: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: A bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science;         -OR- A bachelor’s degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene;         -OR- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience iis defined as leading high level industrial hygiene related programs and initiatives with responsibility for coordinating, integrating, facilitating, reporting, and promoting highly visible, environmentally related activities which cross organizational lines and include, but are not limited to: hazardous (i.e. lead based paint) and regulated waste (i.e. asbestos) management, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), underground/above ground storage tanks, Title V air permitting, pollution prevention, solid waste, stormwater, and refrigerant management programs. This position has a positive education requirement: Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date of announcements to verify qualifications. If selected, an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.
