About the Position: Serve as a Training Technician (Life Fire / Ground Controller) for Director of Plans, Training, Mobility, and Security, Training Division at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Liberty. Enforce range safety and serve as a ground controller and liaison to air traffic control for a variety of high-risk training operations.
Duties
Approve exercise scheduling and conduct pre-exercise checks and coordination.
Consider training area availability, restrictions, and scope of training operations planned to position and approve the scheduling of exercise plans.
Coordinate with various personnel and use automated system to integrate operational plans scheduled throughout the area.
Inform range uses of restrictions and parameters impacting operational exercises.
Monitor, evaluate, and disseminate information regarding the execution of various phases of exercises.
Operate a computer console to monitor unit movement.
Monitor and participate in conversations with air traffic control personnel regarding emergency conditions impacting continuance and execution of exercises.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Enforcing range safety criteria to facilitate the execution of dangerous and high risk training exercises and maneuvers involving a variety of personnel, aircraft, vehicles and hazardous explosives such as weapons, ammunition, artillery, and other explosives; 2) Reviewing operational plans to conduct pre-exercise checks, schedules and coordination; AND 3) Monitoring exercises to receive and relay information affecting the continuance and execution of exercises affecting operational plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education
