You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT in the SECURITY OFFICE of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. NAVFAC is currently undergoing a reorganization and this position may be realigned to a new organizational structure within NAVFAC once finalized. The planned reorganization will not change the role of this position.

Duties

You will conduct initial determination of acceptability by reviewing prior security eligibility investigations through Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS). You will conduct security inspections to identify and resolve security problems to ensure compliance with personnel security regulations and procedures. You will assist with personnel security process (e.g., initiate personnel security investigations) for command. You will use Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) or similar system to process personnel security inquiries, classified visit requests, and security clearance actions. You will review Standard Operating Procedures for classified areas to ensure they are in compliance with regulations.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Reviewing requests for personnel or facility security clearances to assure all information is provided and accurate; 2) Reviewing reports of personnel investigations to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information; 3) Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite security inspections, audits, assistance visits, and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes; and 4) Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions. **NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume.
