This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
The candidate will be addressing the computational tasks of quality control in gene therapy applications. The duties include measuring gene delivery particles using a new High-Throughput Light Scattering Microscopy as described at the project web page. The candidate will be responsible for designing artificial intelligence (AI) models for image segmentation, particle detection, particle tracking, and particle quantification. Furthermore, the candidate will contribute to optical modeling and focusing on computational aspects of developed models to extract physical properties from imaging data.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in image analyses, processing large image collections under time constraints, artificial intelligence-based modeling of image analysis tasks, and image-based measurements.
