About the position: This position will be assigned to the IT office on Keesler Air Force Base. This position is considered regular full time. You are guaranteed 35 hours, however you could work up to 40 hours per week. As a regular part time employee, you are eligible to earn annual leave, sick leave, and sign up for benefits, to include health/life insurance, 401k, and NAF retirement.

Duties

Monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and that operational standards are met. A strong knowledge of computers and how they operate, which includes having a broad understanding of hardware and software, operating systems, and basic computer programming. Troubleshoots hardware, software, Wide Area Network (WAN), and Local Area Network {LAN) problems. Identifies and determines corrective action to be taken in case of malfunctions of hardware or software not covered by standard procedures. Resolves partial system failures (software or hardware-related) by providing for revised applications of system operating capabilities, which involves working through or around the problems with reduced capacity, and readjusting the system when full operating configuration is resolved. Participates with applications programmers and operations personnel to identify problems with applications, operating systems, or hardware that are difficult to pinpoint. Suggests methods for sequencing and software/hardware operating configuration to accept new requirements and resolve processing malfunctions. Adapts or develops new work procedures and instructions for application by self and others. Administers the process to consider user requests for additional computer hardware and software. Analyzes process and/or problems relative to the design and selections of automated systems. Determines if the facility environment can provide for system requirements, and infrastructure is in place to support the system. Coordinates with other base agencies and contractors to ensure compliance standards are met. Maintains an extensive organizational inventory of computer upgrades. Assists in making recommendations for system improvements. Maintains established applications programs, and modifies program contents to provide for new data and output when such changes do not modify the original programming logic and techniques. Explains system capabilities, limitations, and output variations to users. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be able to provide technical advice and guidance to management and have the ability to train users on hardware/soft applications. Must be able to work uncommon tour of duty, including weekends. Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds. Must be available to take emergency IT calls if placed on an on-call status.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
