This position is in Facilities Management Division (AFM), Operations Department, Electric shop of the National Gallery of Art. The purpose of this position is to repair, inspect, troubleshoot and, maintain building electrical components and systems, to include but not limited to defective wiring, controls, equipment, and lighting fixtures.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards for Electrical Worker WG-2805-08 which includes possession of the following job elements: SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Troubleshooting Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Must be physically able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  Must be able to work unscheduled evening and weekend hours.  Requires work inside and outside, in all kinds of weather.  Work is in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty and greasy.  Work can be performed 30 feet above the floor, or more.  Work can be in confined spaces.  Work carries risk of electrical shock and burns, and entanglement in moving machinery parts.  Work is near hazardous materials and chemicals.  Incumbent will be required to walk, climb, crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, push and pull for extended periods of time.  Must have the ability to distinguish color and shades of color for wire color codes.  Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
