This position is part of the Agency Support Operations/Facilities Management, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia
This position is located in the Electrical Branch, Facilities Management, and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment of the GPO. The position supports the agency's Security and Intelligent Documents Directorate.
Duties
Plans, lays out, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic circuits and component systems to the component level, and replaces necessary devices and equipment.
Interprets domestic and foreign blueprints and schematics, PLC manufacturer's maintenance instructions sheets, electrical systems, assembly drawings, diagrams.
Maintains, troubleshoots, and systematically analyzes automated equipment malfunctions, devises repair procedures performs expeditious repairs, and ensures the replacement of worn or defective parts before actual breakdowns occur.
Uses hand tools and sophisticated test equipment, such as signal tracers and oscilloscopes, to troubleshoot, record, and make repairs to record voltage, amperage, resistance and continuity.
Modifies PLC programming such as scan time, examine if open, examine if close move statement, bit shifting, timers, counters and document any changes.
Requirements

- Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area.
- Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat or cold.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Electrician, KE-2805-00, applicants must meet the following screen-out element, job element 1 to be considered for this position: Ability to do the work of an Electrician without more than normal supervision. Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of an Electrician at the journeyman level. These duties require skill in troubleshooting and repairing equipment, in industrial, institutional, or commercial settings, providing the full range of electrical support in the areas of installation, diagnosis, repairing of electrical wiring, pulling of wires, and all other preventative maintenance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
