You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER (Accident Investigator) in the Provost Marshal Officer/Marine Corps Police Department of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will respond to all traffic accidents; thoroughly investigate, supervise the accident scene and/or direct all events at the scene of an accident. You will review statements taken, interview witnesses, interrogate suspects and reconstruct the scene of an accident. You will coordinate base traffic surveys of suspect or traffic problem areas and monitor them to maintain statistics on accidents for traffic enforcement/control programs. You will conduct radar system detection to enforce speed limits and sobriety checkpoints to identify and deter drinking and driving violations. You will ensure that photos and proper measurements are taken at accident scenes to reconstruct the events of the accident. You will perform traffic law enforcement using radar and Breathalyzer; conduct investigative stops, questions, detains and issues traffic citations. You will perform motorized, walking or bike patrols of the installation; respond to and investigate complaints while enforcing federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DOD, Naval and Marine Corps regulations.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete a designated USMC Basic Police Officers Course and meet all certification requirements, to include weapons certifications, CPR, AED, DoD and Joint Training Regulations.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Overtime way be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work; subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond. May be subject to being interrupted from meal or other work breaks while on duty.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton and obtain other required certifications.
  • Must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots and gloves. If conducting law enforcement operations in navigable waters, you must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program at FLETC or similar course.
  • This is a Department of Navy drug testing designated position. Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. www.sss.gov. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must be a US Citizen. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) position and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of theFederal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
  • Must carry firearms. Must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all re-qualification as required.
  • Must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-test as required. You will be required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Must meet medical standards for Police Officers in DOD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM 6260.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing law enforcement and accident investigation duties involved with responding to traffic accidents; governing the accident scene and/or directing all events that transpire at the scene; reconstructing the scene of an accident; preparing charts, graphs, slides, and takes photos; conducting radar system detection to enforce speed limit and sobriety checkpoints to identify and deter drinking and driving; conducting traffic stops, questioning, detaining and issuing traffic citations; ensuring Police Accident Reports and Complaint Reports are complete.
