This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Military Personnel Records Center. This position performs numerous activities involved in the search, retrieval, refile, and maintenance of personnel and related records.
Duties
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Use automated production systems, input data and prepare system queries of various types of pending search requests to create logical batches of search requests, taking into consideration the complexity of the requests, the priority of the requests, the Center's queue discipline, and the location of the responsive records.
Search and retrieve from holdings responsive records needed to support the order fulfillment process.
Prepare records for shipment to external agencies by updating production system, adding bar codes to original records, generating packing lists, and preparing records for shipment to remote locations.
Sort, batch, and return original records to proper location in storage at conclusion of order fulfillment cycle.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-4, you must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
EDUCATION: 2 years of education above high school.
OR
COMBINATION: A combination of experience and education listed above in which the percentage of experience and education totals to 100%. (For example: the completion one year above high school which meet 50% of the requirements for education and 6 months of general experience.)
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
