This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Archival Operations-St. Louis. The incumbent serves as an on-site supervisory authority charged with enforcing NARA policy, managing staff, and ensuring access to information about NARA holdings in the public research areas.
Duties
As a SUPERVISORY ARCHIVES SPECIALIST, you will:
Serve as a general authority to whom all research room staff and researchers can direct their concerns.
Consult with division and branch level management to address issues and anomalies in staff coverage of public research areas.
Directly supervise a staff of archives specialists and archives technicians who work in public research areas.
Oversee issuance of researcher identification cards in accordance with NARA policies, including verifying information on researcher card applications, and issuing researcher cards.
Provide general information about NARA's holdings, rules and regulations guiding the use of NARA facilities.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Communicating with customers internally and externally to provide information and resolve issues; AND
Experience with reference principles, procedures and techniques to make decisions in the handling of research requests; AND
Leading a team, program or project, using time management to complete work within set deadlines.
OR
EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
OR
COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09level for 52 weeks.
