Position is located within the Behavioral Health Department within the Owyhee Service Unit located in Elko, Nevada. The incumbent serves as the Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Program which provides integrated behavioral/mental health services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and elderly patients in an outpatient setting. Provides direct patient care as a licensed independent medical staff provider, including primary care/ geriatric care and specialized mental health and psychiatric services.

Duties

The incumbent is a member of a care team with other medical staff providers and health care staff (clinical and non- clinical). Incumbent ensures patients receive quality patient centered mental health care that is consistent with the patient centered medical home principles, and that care is timely, appropriate, cost effective, sensitive and coordinated to achieve desired clinical outcomes. As the Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Program, the management includes all functions of supervising, planning, organizing, and developing community oriented ambulatory psychiatric, mental health, social work, and counseling/therapy services in order to ensure the highest quality of patient centered medical care. Demonstrates effective communication skills in addressing sensitive topics such as sexually related issues, elder abuse, substance abuse, violence, death, mental health, and other related problems. Utilizes advanced clinical and analytical skills, independently assesses patients presenting with suicidal ideation and/or attempts, and independently plans and implements an emergency treatment plan. Makes a diagnosis by: utilizing critical thinking in the diagnostic process; synthesizing and analyzing the collected data; formulation a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results; establishes priorities to meet the health and medical needs of the individual, family, or community.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): All applicants must meet all the basic requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited professional nursing educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained OR Possess a degree from Foreign Nursing School and possess an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Education Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0610-13:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Provides direct psychiatric services to patients across the life-span by assessing plans and providing support, comprehensive and therapeutic/ psychiatric, and psychological health care to individual geriatric, adult, adolescent and pediatric patients and their families with as-needed consultation with the medical staff; conducts evaluation and diagnosis of psychiatric medication needs; address sensitive topics such as sexually related issues, elder abuse, substance abuse, violence, death, mental health, and other related problems; performs brief and solution-focused interventions for a wide range of both acute and chronic behavioral health concerns. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
