This position is located at the Elko Service Unit, located in Elko, Nevada. Serves as community health advisor and provider of comprehensive nursing services to individuals and families in Indian communities and reservations within an assigned geographic area.

Duties
Develops or participates in the development of comprehensive community health nursing plans related to such services as: maternal and child health, chronic and communicable disease control, mental health, health care teaching and supervision; and case finding, referral and follow-up.
Carries out community health plans by conducting visiting to homes, communities, schools and clinics to provide patient care, counseling, and instruction in preventive, curative and rehabilitative health matters; participating in health services such as special clinics and immunization and skin test programs; and by coordinating patient care with medical and ancillary care resources.
Serves as resource person in program planning; providing in-service education and other training (such as acting as preceptor for employees), conducting case conference with other health care providers.
Provides guidance, direction and training to ancillary nursing and other personnel.
Maintains records and reports on patients, daily activities, program status, and other required information for use in program operation, quality assurance and other purposes.
Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in nursing through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on nursing committees.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):Individual Occupational Requirements

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Examples Include: Providing highly specialized nursing care to high risk populations in the setting of clinics, homes, schools, and communities; developing health education materials, investigating health problems in the community to identify potential/outbreak situations-field epidemiology; leading and coordinating wellness clinics.
OR
Successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
