About the Position: Serves as Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) over a group of medical support assistants performing entering, manipulating, and retrieving information from databases, scheduling and coordinating medical appointments, providing technical guidance in the area of clerical duties, such as reviewing reports, creating documents following protocols and standard operating instructions and providing excellent customer service within Evans Army Community Hospital.
Duties
Shifts personnel as necessary to cover any emergencies, maintaining sufficient coverage and adjusts short-term priorities based on changing situations and insures that employees understand and follow instructions.
Initiates requests for filling vacancies or for additional personnel to meet work requirements. Hears and resolves informal employee complaints.
Recommends minor disciplinary measures and refers unresolved or more serious complaints to next higher-level supervisor. Develops performance standards and evaluates work performance of employees and prepares formal performance appraisals.
Assigns work based on priorities and employees’ capabilities of daily, weekly or monthly requirements, providing special instructions as necessary for new or unusual assignments. Responsible for interviewing candidates to fill vacant positions.
Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Specifies goals and obstacles to achieving those goals, generates alternatives, considers risks, and evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions or solve a problem.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccine and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position is inclement weather essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position may require periodic immunizations (other than the influenza vaccine) and tuberculosis monitoring.

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes documented experience 1) Entering, manipulating, and retrieving information and data from a medical automated system; 2) Scheduling and coordinating medical appointments for patients; 3) Providing technical guidance, such as reviewing reports for accuracy, ensuring compliance with policies and operating instructions, and/or providing support to hospital staff. 4) Providing information to patients such as hospital policy and procedures, or patient eligibility.

Proficiency Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
