About the Position: The incumbent of this position prepares intravenous fluids for patients, assists the anesthesiologist with equipment and supplies during medical procedures; and monitors the patient's condition throughout the procedure. Work hours support the 24/7 hospital mission which may include shift work, rotating shifts, overtime, extended hours, holidays, nights and/or weekends. Relocation or Retentions Incentive MAY be paid. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Assist the anesthetist in the operating room with the induction of anesthesia. Place intravenous (IV) on patients and administers local anesthetic. Obtain and maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies to ensure compliance in accordance with (OSHA) Occupational Health and Safety. Administration and agency standards and procedures. Monitor patient condition throughout the medical procedure.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a National Agency Background Check (NACI).
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Incumbent may be required to work evenings/nights, rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • Employee may be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • Incumbent may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement therefore the incumbent is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing for incumbents.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing intravenous fluids, drawing blood samples, operating and cleaning specialized medical equipment, and assisting the anesthetist by obtaining, and maintaining medical instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications used during anesthetic procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing with course work in anesthesiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
