About the Position: The Engineering Technician position is located at the Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Facilities Management Division.
Duties
Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for renovation, repair, maintenance or new work projects for the Womack Army Medical Center.
Review and analyze plans, specifications and estimates prepared by others for the Medical Center to determine whether the design is complete and conforms to Medical Center requirements.
Monitor and inspect maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction work performed at the Womack Army Medical Center by the Director of Public Works (DPW) and construction contractors.
Coordinate Director of Public Works (DPW)/contractor work efforts with staff in affected areas of the medical treatment facility.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to workdays, evenings, nights, rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations. May be member in charge of a team or a sole worker on weekend/evening/night assignments.
- Employees assigned to this position may be designated as Mission Essential and assume Essential Personnel status during Inclement weather/emergencies. Incumbent may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
- Employee may be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, sketches, or specifications in electronic formats; reviewing or assisting in the preparation of contract documents (e.g., Performance Work Statement, PWS; Statement of Work, SOW); participating in quality management activities (e.g., field observations, testing, reporting, sampling, plan review); AND collecting or compiling data for analysis or reporting purposes.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education including courses such as engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics, or I have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree in engineering, physical science, or a closely related field, which has equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 36.. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
