You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Calibration Laboratory Branch (Code 137.1), of the Regional Metrology and Calibration Division (Code 137), in the Quality Assurance Office (Code 130) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will analyze the measurement problem presented and develop a system of evaluation, correction of errors, etc., utilizing equipment of the highest accuracy and the most precise design available to the Navy Calibration Program. You will review subordinate supervision plans and schedules of work and assign workload based on priorities. You will be responsible for the activities performed within the Branch to include calibration and repair of test equipment within the Calibration Laboratory Branch. You will be responsible for the administration of internal policies and development/implementation of procedures and methods of operation for the Branch, including diversified technical programs/processes associated with the METCAL Program. You will identify training and developmental needs of both military and civilian personnel within the Branch. You will evaluate work performed within the Branch conforms to SYSCOM, TYCOM, and local Quality Assurance policies and guidelines.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position requires rotating shift work.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying practical engineering concepts, principles, practices, measurement theory, and science related to the measurement of physical and electronic phenomena. Experience operating Navy METCAL Program and interpreting Navy METCAL documents, NAVSEA/NAVAIR Technical Manuals, national/international calibration standards, and other instructions related to the functions of metrology and calibration. Experience applying modern business and management principles/techniques in resolving issues, managing multiple problems while delivering complex solutions simultaneously. Experience planning and directing technical work requiring general knowledge and competency in a variety of competing fields. Experience preparing and delivering oral and written communications/presentations within the Laboratory, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and at the SYSCOM levels.
