Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Printing Specialist, you will:
Serve as the Department's expert in digital and conventional printing processes.
Serve as customer service printing consultant to furnish technical advice on matters of printing processes including publication sizes; paper grade, weight, and color; assembly construction, binding, folding, and scoring; ink colors, cost and time estimates, and all related printing matters.
Serve as the expert in various programs and digital media that output to the printing process.
As Department's expert, you will be expected to stay current on professional printing and graphics systems via personal experience, research, and through contacts with other experts in Government and industry.
Develop and write printing and binding specifications to meet the sponsor's desired goal in the most efficient and economical manner.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Experience performing press inspections on digital, web or sheet fed printers by matching proofs to printed products to determine accuracy. AND
Experience reviewing proofs and final products at various quality levels of printing to include Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 plus digital printing and ensuring they meet quality assurance specifications. AND
Experience writing contracts, processing print orders and soliciting print requests to obtain quotes. AND
Experience working with spot colors and 4-color process print jobs which require tight registration and performing pre-press operations, determining paper stocks, and suggesting binding operations which will impact quality and cost. AND
Experience working within the printing industry and print shop operations, as well as project management which includes developing project milestones and deadlines, identifying contractual requirements and providing analytical information.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Experience assisting in performing press inspections on digital, web or sheet fed printers. AND
Experience reviewing proofs and final products at various quality levels of printing to include Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 plus digital printing and also identifying spot colors plus 4-color process printing. AND
Experience performing project management including: developing project milestones and deadlines, identifying contractual requirements and providing analytical information.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13 you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-12 you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
