You will serve as a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (NETWORK SERVICES) in the TECHNICAL SUPPORT DIVISION, IT and CYBER SECURITY OFFICE, of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be responsible for designing, engineering, configuring, installing, testing, and documenting complex architectures and component configurations relating to wired and wireless (WiFi/WIDS/RFID) products and/or solutions. You will be responsible for defining and maintaining network architecture and infrastructure. You will be responsible for configuring and optimizing network, hubs, routers and switches. You will use job-relevant information systems- monitoring network capacity, performance, and diagnosing and resolving network problems. You will identify, analyze and improve business processes to meet new or existing goals and objectives

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Earn and maintain credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned.
  • Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2.
  • A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and the supervisor.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Experience with current network analysis and design techniques. - Experience with the ability to provide, thorough oral and written communications, and guidance to management to determine the most appropriate methods for delivering information via the network infrastructure. - Experience with network development, testing, installation, configuring and optimizing network hubs, routers and switches, operations, management, and maintenance concepts and methods. - Experience applying the skill of common site-specific network hardware, architecture, protocols, monitoring techniques, switching, routing, VPNs, and access control. ________________________________________ and _____________________________________ Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
