Duties
The Antitrust Division is seeking to fill multiple Legal Administrative Specialist positions to join legal teams in its Washington, D.C. office. The purpose of the Legal Administrative Specialist position is to provide administrative and legal support to the supervisors and employees of the assigned team. The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
Providing a variety of administrative and legal services essential to the direction and operation of the team, including preparing documents and forms for administrative and legal requests, as well as reports and routine office correspondence.
Conducting legal research and program management support for attorneys and paralegals.
Providing administrative and logistical support for trials and depositions, including document preparation, binder production, witness coordination, witness travel, securing space, and obtaining and setting up equipment.
Delivering administrative support for the assigned team with responsibility for team document management, timekeeping, scheduling, correspondence management, invoice management, records management, performance management, training coordination, office supply management, using automated systems to log and track data, escorting visitors, and managing team office space allocation.
Utilizing available software technology, such as word processing, spreadsheets, computer graphics, specialized software such as litigation support software, or database applications to manage, track, and organize legal case information.
Preparing routine correspondence such as the transmittal of pleadings, requests for extensions of time, advising of actions taken or required, developments in referred cases, notices to attorneys representing defendants, and other matters.
Serving as the team's representative on a wide range of administrative matters, working with specialists, management, and contractor personnel to facilitate timely and proper completion of work.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has provided the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to this position being filled.
To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-7 in the federal service that includes at least 3 of the following 4 duties:
Experience managing the administrative functions for a team, including at least 4 of the following duties: travel administration, document management, timekeeping, scheduling, correspondence management, invoice management, records management, performance management, training coordination, office supply management, using automated systems to log and track data, and managing team office space allocation;
Experience managing multiple simultaneous assignments and effectively managing time to meet established deadlines;
Experience maintaining legal files, including the filing of all motions, pleadings, and correspondence in major cases;
Experience searching files and assembling relevant materials to assist attorneys in answering complex correspondence.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-9 in the federal service that includes at least 3 of the following 5 duties:
Experience managing the administrative functions for a team, including at least 6 of the following duties: travel administration, document management, timekeeping, scheduling, correspondence management, invoice management, records management, performance management, training coordination, office supply management, using automated systems to log and track data, and managing team office space allocation;
Experience preparing routine legal correspondence such as the transmittal of pleadings, requests for extensions of time, advising of actions taken or required, developments in referred cases, notices to attorneys representing defendants, and other legal management matters;
Experience managing multiple simultaneous assignments and effectively managing time to meet established deadlines both for individually assigned tasks and tasks assigned to a team;
Experience making well-informed decisions by carefully examining the implications and possible consequences of a particular course of action, effectively weighing alternatives, and proactively identifying solutions;
Experience bringing attention to detail to work as demonstrated by focusing on all aspects of a task or project and ensuring that they are completed accurately and thoroughly.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, applicantsmust possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that includes at least 5 of the following 6 duties:
Experience managing the administrative functions for a team, including at least 8 of the following duties: travel administration, document management, timekeeping, scheduling, correspondence management, invoice management, records management, performance management, training coordination, office supply management, using automated systems to log and track data, and managing team office space allocation;
Experience organizing documents, materials and writing synopses for use by attorneys;
Experience preparing and organizing trial exhibits, including items such as the preparation of charts and reports, and the coordination of photographic exhibits;
Experience drafting reports or memoranda for use by attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, or other legal documents, utilizing knowledge of source materials, the law library, and various types of references;
Experience providing support to and assisting attorneys or paralegals in legal areas such as responding to inquiries from courts, client agencies, fact, or expert witnesses;
Experience bringing attention to detail to work as demonstrated by focusing on all aspects of a task or project and ensuring that they are completed accurately and thoroughly.

Education

GS-9: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combining Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-12: Substitution of education not allowed for the GS-12.
All academic degrees and course work must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the
