About the Position: Serves as a Range Communications Operator. Performing duties as a Ground/Air Activities Controller on a rotating shift in a range control facility. Assisting in coordinating and scheduling of activities with those of the artillery, gunnery, and fixed range/training area to avoid scheduling conflicts for training.
Duties
Transmit operational safety information to range personnel.
Conduct range safety briefs to newly certified Range Safety Officers
Resolve scheduling conflicts with supported organizations to ensure favorable outcome.
Provide Range Safety with scheduling information to assist with access point security.
Coordinate multiple range schedules to meet customer needs.
Use automated systems to schedule and plot usage requests.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment Drug testing screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally work irregular tours of duty to cover weekend and night training.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with range operations in areas such as maintaining proper communication among personnel utilizing range and maneuver areas, safely controlling daily movement of equipment and personnel within and out of the firing ranges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
