Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Supervisory Public Health Advisor, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Assuring the coordination and successful implementation of grant programs, technical assistance, evaluation activities, and other activities. Overseeing the development of grant funding announcements and contract packages. Working to improve the collection and use of data within their unit and to inform the development of systems to better collect and use data. Establishing and maintaining relationships with representatives of other SAMHSA, other HHS operating and staff divisions, other Federal agencies, State and local agencies, and stakeholders. Developing or overseeing the development of written materials for professional and public audiences related to assigned programs and subject areas.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: Must meet the items listed below: Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities. Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings. Knowledge of a specialized public health program. Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions. Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials. -AND- Minimum Qualifications: In addition to the basic qualification requirement above, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service that include at least two (2) of the following: Leading and/or directing activities, and/or services related to mental health or substance use programs. Providing assistance and/or information to grantees, providers, and/or staff related to mental health or substance use programs. Presenting information on subjects and topics related to mental health, mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
