You will serve as an Interdisciplinary Oceanographer/Physical Scientist in the Ocean Collections Division, N94, Ocean Projects Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will perform spatial analysis, gee-processing and geodatabase development on survey data sets being uploaded post mission while at sea.
You will develop environmental survey products by compiling and integrating side scan sonar imagery, geotechnical, hydrographic/bathymetric, and oceanographic environmental data sets to a final specified ODISTA product.
You will coordinate and implement new / improved methods for more efficient data processing using state of art, proprietary or commercial software packages to perform data manipulation to achieve correct interpretation.
You will investigate and extract environmental data from external sources for data analysis and crosscheck of data for pre-planning verification, enhance existing data set or data analysis.
You will Participate in Remote Environmental Monitoring Units Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (REMUS AUV) surveys to provide technical data collection assistance, imagery data download and processing support as REMUS watch stander.

- This position requires up to 20% field duty conducting shipboard surveys in accordance with the requirements stated in NA VOINST 3120.13D.

- Periodic updates of the TS will be initiated at four and one half year intervals to determine the eligibility of the incumbent to continue to be granted access to SCI material and data.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Preparing tailored environmental products to fill on-demand/immediate data requests to include (but not limited to) seafloor geology, bathymetry, meteorology and/or physical oceanography in the form of digital data, GIS maps, and environmental reports for customer/sponsor; Coordinating or implementing new/improved methods for more efficient data processing and product generation for environmental support; Interpreting and/or integrating multiple data types, to include (but not limited to) seafloor geology, bathymetry, meteorology and/or physical oceanography, for analysis and development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital report products; Investigating environmental data from literature and external sources for data analysis and cross-check with existing data sets to compile the highest resolution data for survey pre-planning and verification; Using software processing tools/packages that include: ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop to prepare high resolution products, build environmental reports and track production.

Education
Basic Education Requirement
1301:
Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
1360:
Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with a major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes course work in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
