This position serves as Supervisory Financial Manager located in the Department of Justice, Justice Management Division, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Policy and Planning Staff, Financial Management Group, in Washington, DC. Responsible for providing the Director and Deputy Director with strategic financial and accounting input, financial management, and oversight of transactional processing associated with the execution of the budget for the Department of Justice (DOJ) IT portfolio.

The duties and responsibilities as a Supervisory Financial Manager GS-0501-15 generally include, but are not limited to the following: Distributes, monitors, and controls the fiscal resources of current financial systems. Controls and oversees all accounting system master files, Fund Code, Accounting Classification, and appropriation reimbursement code files. Provides reliable accounting advice and oversees preparation of accounting reports to financial managers on status, trends, statutory and policy limitations. Reviewing allotments and sub-allotments of funds for distribution to program managers. Analyzes, advises on, and recommends solutions to budgetary problems in all phases of budget administration. Manages a teams of financial management specialist and accountants in the accounting processes. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.

  • You must be a current Federal employee within the Department of Justice on a Competitive Service appointment.

  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Financial Manager, (GS-0501-15), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Specialized Experience: For the GS-15 you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service. At a minimum, specialized experience must be in or related to the following: Leading and/or developing financial management analysis functions (e.g. creating financial management plans, directing financial program reviews, or developing high level budget summaries) for an organization; AND Independently applying, overseeing, and implementing federal accounting and acquisitions principles, policies, and regulations; AND Utilizing concepts, principles, practices, laws, and regulations related to financial operations.
