You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the Public Affairs Department of COMNAVREG MIDLANT NORFOLK.

Duties

You will coordinate the generation of press releases for new information and developments. You will prepare speeches and presentations for senior command leaders to provide guidance and advice on the best way to convey the information. You will collaborate with other military and community public affairs officers, business community, local media, and governmental agencies to develop clear and concise information for release to the public. You will arrange special events (e.g., open houses, guided tours, ground-breaking ceremonies, dedications) to promote community relations. You will create written responses to inquiries from media groups or the general public concerning program activities.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Position frequently works overtime and on weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Maintaining official websites, social media accounts, and/or content management systems for public affairs information dissemination; 2) Writing speeches, news articles, and/or briefs to disseminate information; and 3) Coordinating internal personnel and resources for participation in community relations events.
