You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the This position is located in the Submarine Piping and Mechanical Branch (Code 265) in the Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 260) of the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide technical guidance for the preparation of and prepare technical work documents in the form of Job Summaries, Task Group Instructions, Deficiency Logs, and Deficiency Reports required to execute and consummate complex projects.
You will analyze reports submitted by the shops as a result of test and examination of equipment for repairs to ascertain which is the most economical; repair or replace equipment in question and develops procedures for its repair.
You will review the completed test results on systems under your cognizance and make the determination of the adequacy of the results.
You will provide technical guidance for all project specifications, design calculations, working plan development, and surveillance during erection or assembly to guarantee compliance with specification and quality requirements.
You will investigate operation of equipment and make recommendations for change in design to remedy faulty conditions.
You will be assigned a job to conduct an overhaul to and existing system component to make a study of the shipboard arrangement and determine the
interferences associated with existing equipment.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience applying a wide range of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents, and techniques sufficient to provide management advisory and technical services related to engineering operations, construction, material properties, processes, and mechanical devices.
Experience utilizing piping and mechanical systems and components cognizant to the Submarine Piping and Mechanical Branch, including but not limited to: main and auxiliary seawater, trim and drain, main ballast tank blow, high and low pressure air, oxygen, fuel and lube oil, steam, feed and condensate, fresh water, plumbing, distilling plant and refrigeration on all classes of naval nuclear submarines assigned to NNSY.
Experience using material information data bases such as IHS System (Haystack), Level 1 Toolkit, MAT, and APLs, MRQT to order standard and non-standard material, One Touch, and WebFLlS.
Experience ordering requirements for material associated with CIM, Mis-Commits, rentals, services, and GFM.
Experience utilizing material ordering codes, writing impact statements, reporting defective/ discrepant material, developing sole source documents, identifying substitute material, and answering a Receipt Inspection Deficiency Log (RIDL).
