About the Position: Position may be filled as a Temporary Appointment NTE 1 Year. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three (3) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a temporary appointment will be appointed/converted into a Temporary appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
Duties
Serve as mail manager ensuring postal, message services, and Federal Express shipments meet the needs of the commands and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Establish command standing operating procedures for postal service, messenger service, mail control and distribution.
Initiate required action and reports on any known criminal mistreatment of the mail or other postal offenses.
Evaluate the services provided by the USPS and requires modifications to meet the needs of the command.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves implementing regulations, policies and procedures relating to Classified and Unclassified Official Mail. Weighing and/or packaging of various material to prepare for the distribution of mail. Managing equipment such as postage meters, mailing machines, scales, automated labeling machines or mail management systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
