About the Position: This is a Supervisory Mail Assistant position located within the Human Resources Command, G6, Fort Knox, KY 40122.
Duties
Serve as mail manager ensuring postal, message services, and Federal Express shipments meet the needs of the commands and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Establish command standing operating procedures for postal service, messenger service, mail control and distribution.
Initiate required action and reports on any known criminal mistreatment of the mail or other postal offenses.
Evaluate the services provided by the USPS and requires modifications to meet the needs of the command.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized experience is defined as: Operational experience and proficiency performing various related mail and clerical duties, i.e. sorting bulk mail from post office, delivering incoming mail (official and non-official) throughout area of responsibility, rerouting misdirected mail, screening for priority items. Possess experience setting up the mail distribution bins for new customers for incoming and outgoing mail. Possess process all types of incoming and outgoing mail and packages in accordance with procedures. Possess experience setting up Mail Runs for deleting and adding customers to Mail Routes keeping the Mail Center Manager informed of these changes. Makes and receives personal and telephonic inquiries regarding receipt and disposition of classified and unclassified mail, discrepancies in mail compliance with security regulations, appropriate offices to receive mail.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
