The position is located at Whiteriver Service Unit, Indian Health Service Hospital (WRSU),Department of preventative medicine. Under the supervision of and/or licensed nurse, performs patient care, technical and clerical services in the outpatient setting. The incumbent must be able to document and retrieve patient and work related data electronically via several standardized computer programs, as well as, written hard copies.
Duties
Assist medical provider in clinic, obtaining vital signs and other body measurements, including chief complaint and brief patient history
Participate in related in-service, meetings and performance improvement initiatives; participates and implements performance initiatives.
Perform related and clerical tasks, such as answer phones, schedules appointments, etc.
Assist with clinical procedures, facilitating the flow of patients through the clinic.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:GS-05: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Experience performing intake procedures by obtaining chief complaint; purpose of visit, experience taking vital signs, i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and pain screen.
OR;
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
OR;
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
GS-06: One (1) year of full time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Experience performing review of patient charts via Electronic Health Record (EHR); experience determining and carrying out preventative care needs according to standing orders and experience notifying medical provider of abnormal findings. Experience in venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, and administering oral medication, typical of experienced medical assistant or health education positions.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
