Duties
Collaborate with the medical treatment facility's (MTF) risk management committee to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the risk management program.
Facilitate the hospital's patient care mission and quality patient care within the framework of established policy, standards of care, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements.
Review the overall effectiveness of the risk management program; serves as a standing member on numerous department and hospital level committees.
Manage the risk management database, analysis, and reporting of data.
Develop and maintains a database to record data accumulated relative to the risk management program incidents, locations of occurrences, providers involved, patients involved and treatment outcomes.
Participate in providing advice and assistance to the MTF clinical and non-clinical departments in identification and investigation of risk management issues, designing assessment methodologies and preparing appropriate reviews.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position may require incumbent to complete a tuberculosis test.

Basic Requirement for Risk Assessment Specialist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with a Hospital's Risk Management Program; conducting risk management review activities for both inpatient and outpatient care; research, input, and retrieve information from a risk management database; and providing training to clinical staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
